Privacy Policy
Who we are
NebulaWar is run by a private individual based in Germany ("we", "us"; see the Imprint). We are responsible for the personal data described here. Questions or requests: [email protected].
The short version
You play without an account, email or password. We keep a random pilot ID in a cookie (in the Android app, in the app's own storage) and store your callsign and game progress against it. We show no ads, run no analytics and load nothing from other companies' servers. We never sell your data.
What we collect
- Pilot ID cookie. The first time you connect, we set a cookie called
spacewarholding a random identifier. It lasts one year and is used only to recognise your profile. It is essential for the game to work, so it is not optional. The Android app sets no cookie: it keeps the same kind of random identifier in the app's own storage and sends it with each request instead. - Your profile. Your callsign, Stardust, unlocked and selected ships, the team you last flew for, your eliminations and your best flight, and flight statistics for each ship tree (flights, time in flight, eliminations, deaths, shots fired, asteroids destroyed, score, Stardust earned and highest level). Other players see your callsign in the kill feed and in matches, and on the all-time leaderboard together with your best score, eliminations and time in flight, so do not use your real name or anything private as a callsign.
- Gameplay. Your movement, aim and fire inputs and your ship's state, sent to the game server while you fly so it can run the match. This is not kept after the flight, apart from the profile totals and statistics above.
- Connection data. Like any website, our servers receive your IP address. We use it only while you are connected, to deliver the game, measure ping to each region and limit abuse.
The Android app
The NebulaWar Android app is the same game in an app shell. It requests only the internet permission, contains no advertising, and does not use the Android advertising ID or any third-party analytics.
Stored on your device
The game remembers your sound and volume settings, last game mode, chosen server and last music track in your browser's local storage (in the Android app, the app's storage). This never leaves your device. Clearing your browser data, or the app's data, resets it.
Why we use it
We use this data to provide the game you asked to play (running matches, saving progress and statistics, showing leaderboards) and, as a legitimate interest, to keep the service secure and fair. We do not use it for advertising or profiling.
Where it is processed
Game servers run in Frankfurt (Germany), Virginia (United States), Seoul (South Korea) and São Paulo (Brazil). Your profile is stored on the Frankfurt server. When you fly on a region outside your own country, your gameplay data is processed there.
How long we keep it
Your profile is kept while the game is running, or until you ask us to delete it. Clearing your cookies, or the Android app's data, starts a new profile. The old one is then no longer linked to you, and we may remove unused profiles over time.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or UK GDPR), you can ask to see, correct or delete your data, object to how we use it, or ask for a copy. Because we do not know who you are, tell us your callsign and roughly when you last played so we can find your profile.
Children
NebulaWar is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has shared personal information with us, for example in a callsign, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update it here and change the date below.
